With a focus on challenging students to consider 3D Objects, the class will design and execute their design on a pair of white shoes of their choice. Utilizing various tools and mark-making techniques students will design shoes incorporate the essence of the shoe design itself. By extracting existing patterns from the shoe and closely observing the form itself, student will generate a glossary of patterns. Line-weight, value, and positive/negative shapes and overall attention to the three-dimensional object will be considered as students work toward achieving visual interest. Students will gain an awareness of the 3D form as a continuous plane and be able to better consider composition as it relates to an entire object.
